This World Water Day, let's celebrate by joining together to bring clean water to the families in Omadira Village in Uganda.
We, at Heal and Thrive Global, partner with our amazing friends at DECODI - a Ugandan led NGO in the Soroti Region of Uganda. We've been working in Omadira with the moms there and 120 of them have joined women's cooperatives. These moms are meeting regularly and saving. We've also recently started a literacy center so they can learn reading, writing, math, business training, hygiene, sanitation, agriculture and more. Whatever they request, they can get trained on! But....they still don't have access to clean water. This means their kids are sick and so are they. It also means SO MUCH of their days are spent walking for water. For many of our moms, they are walking 45 min each way 4x per day. This means even if they can start a business, they barely have any time to work on it! And with one of their kids home sick every single day - life becomes quite difficult.
We believe there's no such thing as other people's children...so we want to do for our moms' kids and families what we'd want done for ours! For $6,800 we can provide for a deep water well to be dug by a Ugandan well drilling company. Even better, our partners in Uganda will recruit in the village a well committee amongst the village leaders - that will include the moms from our program! This means MORE WOMEN ELEVATED INTO LEADERSHIP! This committee takes ownership of the well once it is drilled and is trained on how to care for it.
When the well is opened, the credit is given to the women of the village. The entire village knowing that the reason they have clean water is because of the most vulnerable women amongst them - the widows and the single mothers. This again elevates the position of the women in the village.
Not only can we help our sisters to have clean water for themselves and their families, we can help elevate them and their positions in their village in the process. It is winning, all around. AND we get to be a part of their dreams come true. Truly, a gift to all of us.
We set up a link to give and also have venmo QR codes on our world water day images that we are asking people to print and put up in their places of business or schools or places of worship! We'd love if you'd consider giving or printing images to share or sharing our social media information in any way this world water day (3.22.24) or the week leading up to it. Omadira (and the 7 other villages on our list of villages in need) are waiting for a miracle and we are standing alongside them. Because....there's no such thing as other people's children.
