There's more to someone with a disability than meets the eye. They weren't given permission to be born with a disability. They didn't ask for it.  Why are those with disabilities treated so much differently than the rest of us?

Is it because they are in a wheelchair? Is it because they can't speak? Is it because they can't hear? Is it because they have a deformity? Is it because they can't see? Is because they're treated like they have a disease? Is it because you think you'll be embarrassed?

No, it's not really any of those things. It's because those without any disabilities can't see what's right in front of them: a human being. Our disabled Sisters and Brothers have been taken advantage of because of they're disability, that is disgusting and disappointing to me!!

Those with disabilities don't see themselves the way others see them. Some of them live better than the rest of us do yet they're still treated like they don't matter.  Others see them as "special needs" people.

My cousin, Tony was disabled, he was born with a hole in his back from Muscular Dystrophy which paralyzed him from the waist down. He lived a full 40 years of life on this earth and never once complained about his disability.

Like others with disabilities, the only "special need" they have is to be loved and accepted just the way they are!!  The ones who are disabled are the ones without love, compassion and understanding for those with disabilities and yet they are treated less than a human being in some cases by most everyone on this planet.

I have a question: our military and veterans, our law enforcement and first responders, our doctors and nurses, our scientists and teachers, our government leaders, our celebrities, etc...What about them? Are you treating them the same as any other person with a disability? Or are you feeling sorry for them and can't wait to see their next movie? Or is it because you can't wait to see them because they made something of themselves or is it because they served our country and you can't wait to thank them?  It's appalling and unjust to treat a certain disabled person any different than anyone else. I can't think of a more worst insult. It's degrading and humiliating to ALL of our disabled people: man, woman and child.

The picture above is of my grandmother who spent the last 4 years of her life in a wheelchair from breaking her hip and osteoporosis. That left her disabled until she passed away in 1988. She was my grandmother, my Nanny.

Like Robert M. Hensel said:

"A disability doesn't have to be a social barrier. Good etiquette begins with inclusion, not exclusion!"
