In a time when technology is the backbone of livelihoods, especially for the youth, it's disheartening to see internet disruptions, firewalls, and the blocking of social media platforms. Many people rely on remote work and freelancing to support themselves and their families. These digital spaces aren't just for socializing—they're crucial for earning a living.
In Pakistan, we urgently need strong, user-friendly, yet accountable policies that support our digital economy. The firewalls being created only serve the interests of power holders, widening the divide between economic classes and allowing those in power to consolidate even more control. This approach hurts the many while benefiting the few.
With the extreme inflation we're facing, making things more difficult for those trying to earn online is not the solution. We should be empowering our youth, not creating more obstacles for them. Businesses are leaving, and earnings are plummeting—this is not the way forward.
Let's advocate for a systemized yet supportive environment where the internet remains open and accessible for all. The digital economy is our future, and it's time we protect and promote it.
