' An ignorant town is the blind instrument of its own destruction' stated Simon Bolivar, from whom Bolivia is honored to inherit the name; he is the Liberator of five nations and said these words in his speech of February 15th, 1819 in Angostura. He also said to us: 'Only one more favor will I ask from this Republic, that it maintains its unity throughout the centuries'. Both sentences touched my heart today, as they are like a premonition of what racism in my country is trying obtain: division and hatred based in ignorance.
Today, the Republic he founded is no longer alive. We have become a plurinational state. Dense clouds of civil war will appear in the skies if, God forbid, autonomy not based on territory, but in race instead, takes over what is left from my beautiful and once peaceful country. Today, celebrations were very few, as the government thinks that Bolivar, being a foreigner and a liberator, had incidence in the Republic, but not in the plurinational state anymore. Today, words of confrontation have been spoken. How soon will the first Bolivians die to please the apetite of blood and power of a few racists?
With all my love, I pray for you today, my dear land, so that you will remain peaceful and avoid war.
