Breastfeeding in the first one hour after delivery is like nectar for the child: Dr. Sujata Sanjay
Breastfeeding awareness webinar by Sanjay maternity centre
There is no proper place in the offices to breastfeed the children: Dr. Sujata Sanjay
Dehradun 3 August 2024.
Dr. Sujata Sanjay, gynaecologist and honoured by the President of India, organized a breastfeeding orientation webinar
on World Breastfeeding Week (1-7 August). More than 98 medical, nursing students and adolescent girls from Uttar
Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab participated in this public awareness lecture.
In order to spread awareness about the importance of breastfeeding and to save babies from malnutrition, the keynote
speaker Dr. Sujata Sanjay, gynaecologist and obstetrician, gave important information about breastfeeding to the medical
students of the various colleges . Dr. Sujata Sanjay told that mother's milk is no less than nectar for the child. It is not only
essential for the all-round development of the baby, but it also benefits the mother mentally and physically. Mother's
milk is very important for the baby in the first one hour of birth. Due to this, about eight thousand lives are saved all over
the world. Despite this, there are still many misconceptions among people regarding breastfeeding. There is still a lack of
awareness among people about the needs of breastfeeding.
According to the UNICEF report, about 77 crore newborns or one out of every two babies in the world do not get breast
milk in the first hour. This figure is very important for infant mortality, due to lack of breast milk for two to 23 hours, the
figure of death rate is 40 percent within 28 days from the birth of the child, while the death rate due to lack of milk even
after 24 hours. This figure increases to 80 percent. Non-feeding of breast milk is also the biggest reason for the death of
newborn babies in the country. Therefore children become victims of malnutrition. According to government figures, 42,5
percent of children under 5 years of age in the country are malnourished and 69,5 percent of children are suffering from
anemia. Four out of 10 stunted children in the world are Indians. And about 1.5 million children under the age of five lose
their lives in India every year.
Dr. Sujata Sanjay told the students about the importance of breastfeeding that motherhood is understood to be the
completeness and meaning of a woman's life. Mother's milk, in which the child gets nourishment, protects him from
diseases. Mother's milk is like nectar for the baby. Mother's milk gives the child the power to fight against malnutrition as
well as diseases. For the first six months, babies should be exclusively breastfed. Being digestible, mother's milk is
essential for the life of the baby. Not only this, breastfeeding is beneficial not only for your baby but also for you.
The more nutrients you include in your diet, the more nutrients your baby will get through milk. If you want your child's
health to remain good, then you should include more turmeric in your diet. Breastfeeding women are benefited by the
consumption of turmeric. The nutrients present in turmeric can protect you from many infections during feeding, which
will not have any negative effect on the health of the baby. Know how turmeric can provide health benefits for
breastfeeding mothers.
Dr. Sujata said that breastfeeding is not only the responsibility of the mother, but partner, family, workplace and other
supportive people also have a role in creating a positive environment for her. Breastfeeding is a natural act. which defines
the mother to child relationship. But this is not possible until the mother does not get a suitable environment for it. More
than 50 percent of working women in the country feel that they do not have proper facilities to breastfeed their babies in
their offices. There should be an exemption from the organization for breastfeeding working women so that she can
breastfeed the child.
Dr. Sujata Sanjay said that mother's milk is the perfect food for your baby. Mother's milk is digestible due to which it
protects the baby from stomach related disturbances. Breastfeeding also helps in increasing the immunity of the baby.
Asthma and ear-related diseases are controlled by breastfeeding, as breast milk makes the baby's nose and throat
resistant skin. Breastfeeding reduces the risk of diseases of the abdominal and respiratory tract, blood cancer, diabetes
and high blood pressure in later stages of life.
