A young lady with albinisim wearing a black off shoulder gown posing for a photo graph.
Growing up with albinisim was bittersweet. Sweet because I was the only daughter. I was coddled and catered to. Bitter because I was misunderstood, caged, treated like the only thing I was good for was marriage. I was called block head, air head, Olodo etc. by the very ones who were supposed to protect me. My only value was the bride price I would attract and the rich man I would get married to.
Until a radio program changed my life. Kode-E was on that radio show. My family and I discovered that I was more than my bride price. They discovered that I wasn't a block head because I was able to use a magnifying glass to see in class. My education no longer had to stop school at junior secondary level. But I went on to write my senior WAEC and am currently a student in a polytechnic. I am currently following the CyberSecurity pathway at Kode-E. Even when I am called four 0'clock eyes. I am thriving and excelling.
Today, I am ANYANWU. Shining bright like the sun. Bringing light and warmth wherever I go. I am ANYANWU. Blazing a trail others can follow. I am ANYANWU. The sun that burns brightly and eternally. I will never give up, I will never grow dark, I will never stop shining. I am ANYANWU, the titan of the Blazing Sun.
