"Captured by Davenesh Sharma in Fiji, 2024, this painting depicts 'The Nurturer'. She embodies nurturing as she carries life in her jug. Framed by her hair, her enigmatic aura suggests the unfathomable essence of womanhood. She remains an enigma, her own essence."
Throughout my tenure as an educator spanning over a decade, I, Eliane Chandra, have assumed various roles beyond traditional teaching. In addition to instructing biology and chemistry, I've served as a trusted counselor, providing guidance and support to students navigating the complexities of their identities.
Central to my responsibilities was the organization of gender counseling sessions held every academic term. These sessions served as safe spaces where students could explore and understand themselves and others on a deeper level.
Despite the discomfort it often elicited, menstruation emerged as a crucial topic in my family life classes. Recognizing its significance in adolescent development, I endeavored to demystify the menstrual cycle, emphasizing the importance of comprehending the 28-day rhythm.
In a societal landscape where teenage pregnancies are prevalent due to a lack of understanding about one's own body, I recognized the urgent need for comprehensive education. As a community advocate, I took it upon myself to address this gap in knowledge.
Utilizing a variety of visual aids such as charts, models, and videos, I created an immersive learning environment in my classroom. Through these resources, I facilitated discussions on menstruation with clarity and empathy, fostering a sense of empowerment among my students.
With each session, the initial discomfort gave way to enlightenment and confidence. The hashtag #CycleOfKnowledge symbolized our collective commitment to education as a tool for dispelling ignorance and promoting informed decision-making.
In essence, my journey transcended mere academic instruction; it embodied a mission to empower young minds with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate life's challenges. As both a teacher and mentor, I found fulfillment in guiding students towards a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them.
