Donation of menstrual pads to vulnerable girls in Limbe
As we focus on this year's theme of the international day of menstrual hygiene , which is :period-friendly world,
It prompts me to think about ways to make periods more environmentally and ecologically friendly.
Periods being one of the most natural processes for women – menstruation – and its impact on the environment Should be a major point of concern.
This is important for women like myself who want to feel proud of our periods while also maintaining good environmental hygiene. It brings to mind my personal experience with my period, where I had to resort to using tissue paper given to me by my aunt because it was all she could afford. Looking back, I realize this was likely due to a lack of proper menstrual hygiene education and poverty.
Though before my aunt noticed i was menstruating , I was using pieces of cloth to manage my flow, all to hide it from my aunt and avoid any further embarrassment
Now that am all grown up, I couldn't help but wonder if these cloth pieces were environmentally friendly. But my answer is yes, because I was able to reuse them multiple times. This sparked an idea in my mind - what if these cloth pieces could be transformed into something sustainable?
After researching, I discovered the answer
- reusable pads. Not only are they affordable and
-more fluid-absorbing, but they are also
- environmentally friendly as they can be used multiple times. This is a great step towards creating a more period-friendly world.
Only difference is making a choice on what kind of material is best to use in making this reusable pads. Which to me, using a thick cotton white material is best and we can all make our own pads
To further this cause, I am committed to train 200young girls of Batoke community on May 25th, 2024 on how to make reusable pads, As well as sharing knowledge on proper environmental and waste management while aiming at donating reusable pads to 100 very vulnerable girls in the community. It is important for us to protect and be friendly with our environment, especially when it comes to something as natural as our periods. #Let's all join hands and combat period poverty together.
#let's make a positive impact together
